Days have passed since we’ve been to Hwang Min Hyun’s UNIVERSE and we’re missing every bit of it.
Hwang Min Hyun has been to Manila a couple of times already with NUES’T and Wanna One. However, on October 8, 2023, at the New Frontier Theater, Hwang Min Hyun stopped by the Philippines as a solo artist for the Manila leg of his Mini Concert “UNVEIL”, which drew a large audience of enthusiastic Filipino fans as well as Hwangdos from overseas.
He beautifully presented his unique and melodic voice while performing tracks from his debut solo album “Truth or Lie.” These included “Hidden Side” as the opening song, “Perfect Type,” “Smile,” and “Crossword.” Additionally, he captivated the audience with performances of “Tree” and “So Beautiful,” both of which are featured as OSTs in the popular Korean drama “Alchemy of Souls,” a show in which he also had a starring role.
“UNVEIL” took on the atmosphere of a fan meeting, with segments designed to enhance interaction with his devoted Hwangdos. One of the initial segments was the “Unveil Timing Game,” where he had to predict the next line of his song or anticipate what would occur in the following scene from the video displayed on the screen. As the charismatic actingdol didn’t succeed in the game, the penalty was to dance while sporting adorable headbands. He danced to EXO Baekhyun’s “Betcha” and New Jeans’ “Super Shy.”
He had yet another special part in store for his fans, titled “Hwang Min Hyun’s Music Album Season 2.” This segment was a delightful treat, as he played the role of a DJ providing heartfelt love advice to the writer, Yul, all while serenading the audience with excerpts from “Back in Time,” “White Night,” and “The Snowman,” his honey-like voice delivering a sense of comfort and tranquility.
As with any other concerts or fan meetings, the essential photo time was a must. However, to Hwang Min Hyun’s astonishment, when he was getting ready to strike a pose with his fans, the LED screen suddenly displayed a touching video created by his Filipino Hwangdos. This heartfelt video evoked a deep sense of gratitude and emotion in him.
In a nutshell, HWANG MIN HYUN’s MINI CO NCERT “UNVEIL” in Manila was a fusion of a concert and a fan meeting, resulting in a memorable evening that beautifully displayed his versatility, talent, charm, and charisma.
