Summer is definitely here and HallyUP sure knows a way how to enjoy the scorching heat as they present Hallyuniverse 5: Tropical Paradise.
Last May 5, 2018, KPOP fans gathered in the UP Sunken Garden for 5 hours of lively music, dynamic performances and exciting games. This is the fifth installment of the annual KPOP gathering hosted by HallyUP, a special interest organization with the passion for the Korean popular culture and is based in the University of the Philippines – Diliman. The Hallyuniverse 5: Tropical Paradise is a free event, not to mention, it was held in a bigger space compared to the previous years, that is why more KPOP enthusiasts were able to attend the fun affair. As any KPOP gathering, some fan clubs graced the event.
The participating fan clubs were VIXX Philippines, BAP Philippines, Lee Jong Suk Fans Philippines, Park Woojin Philippines, SJPHELF’s (Super Junior Philippine ELF’s), KARD Philippines, The Boyz Philippines, Stray Kids Philippines, ASTRO Philippines, Shinhwa Philippines, Twice Philippines and Park Seo Joon Philippines.
These fan clubs prepared mini-games that let the event participants earn a stamp and once all fan club stamps were completed, earned them a chance in a raffle for KPOP albums. Aside from the fan clubs’ games, the organizers also arranged Korean-inspired games which we seldom see in K-Reality Shows like Mom-eu-ro Mal-hae-yo (Charades) and Nunchi Game. Winners to these games were given KPOP posters and merchandise.
This year, HallyUP accommodated twenty-five cover groups to please everyone’s eyes and ears as they performed popular songs from some of today’s KPOP idol groups such as TWICE, BLACKPINK, SEVENTEEN, APINK, ACE, VICTON, INFINITE and many more. With the countless cheers from the crowd, the performers gave their best effort to represent their favorite KPOP idols. The performers were 7IVE, 7fifty, A Queens, Acethetic, Aila Abellanosa, B&P, BaKARDi, Carebears, Class B, Coven, EXIT, Jo-jamstar, Joyce Villanueva, Mixtape, MXB, Playdizz, Quiara, Qwince, Reverie, Royal Beats, Sanimoon, Spinel, TIAMOO, Tweens, Vixion, and Y.O.U.
Just like all the HallyUniverse installments, the event ended with the HallyUP members doing a flash mob to popular KPOP songs. It was obvious that the organization earned more members each year thus there were more people dancing towards the end of the occasion, still full of energy.
Hallyuniverse 5: Tropical Paradise was indeed a gathering that showcased singing and dancing talents from many of today’s KPOP fans. It was a great venue where they were able to bond and spazz for their KPOP idols.
Looking forward to next year!
